Tyer Recipe
Hook TMC 8089 (heavy, wide-gape bass/salmon style), #4-8 (size 6 in the video)
Thread Black (white used in the video for the underbody, black for the head) Nano silk GSP
Materials
Floss or flat waxed nylon Red floss (Short length for the rear butt)
Floss Cornflower blue (Short length for the second butt)
Holographic tinsel Black holographic tinsel (One length for the body)
Wire Silver wire (Medium, one length for the rib)
Fox tail Dyed black material (Small clump for the flare ball)
Guinea fowl, large dot Silver doctor blue (1 feather, first collar)
Teal or mallard flank Natural barred wood duck flank (1 large feather, second collar)
UV resin Clear uv resin (Thin coat over the body)
How to tie it
Wax the thread and start it a short way behind the eye, then wrap back to just short of the hook point.
Tie in the red floss and build a butt about a quarter inch long: wrap it back to the rear tie-in point, then forward again over itself so it is smooth and solid. Tie off and trim, then bring the thread up tight against the front of the red.
Tie in the cornflower blue floss right against the red and build a matching quarter-inch butt the same way, back, then forward over itself. Tie off and trim.
Tie in the medium silver wire along the near side and take it back to the front of the blue butt.
Tie in the black holographic tinsel just ahead of the blue, leaving plenty of bare shank at the front for the collars. Take one full wrap at the rear, then wrap forward in slightly overlapping turns to build a slim body. Tie off and trim.
Rib the body with about five open turns of silver wire, tie off and helicopter the wire away. Brush a thin coat of UV resin over the body, spread it with a bodkin so it does not sag, and cure it under the light.
Build a short dubbing loop at the front of the body, load it with black-dyed fox tail, wax the thread, and spin it tight. Spread the fibers, comb them out with a stiff brush, then wrap two or three turns to form a dense flare ball, stroking the fibers back on every turn. Brush it out.
Strip the fluff from a large-dot silver doctor blue guinea feather and tie it in by the tip, shiny side out, folding the tip back over itself and binding it down. Tear away the leading edge to thin the feather, then wrap two or three turns as a collar, stroking fibers back each turn. Tie off and brush the fibers out so they are not clumped.
Strip the fluff from a large natural teal or mallard flank feather and wrap it as the front collar the same way, right up against the guinea, stroking everything back on each turn. Tie off, trim the stem.
Build a neat black thread head, whip finish, and seal with UV resin or head cement (a coat of clear nail polish over cured resin removes any tackiness).
