Mount an Umpqua X-Series All Purpose XS410 in size 2, start UTC Ultra Tan 140 just behind the eye, work back to the bend and snip the tag.
Antenna: tie a few strands of black olive Krystal Flash in just around the bend, a couple of hook lengths long, and snip the excess.
Strip off a pair of Wapsi Sili nymph legs and bind them down right on top at the same point.
Eyes: tie the EP crab and shrimp eyes in at the bend one at a time, angled down slightly, each staying out on its own side of the shank. Snip the excess mono, tidy the wraps underneath so everything is uniform, then bend the eyes outward to flare them and trim the rubber legs back a little.
Pull a patch of tan UV Ice Dub apart so the long fibers are in it, bind it in where the bend starts with two securing wraps, then double it back over itself and tie it down back at the eyes. Pluck out the loose fibers.
Cut a strip of tan 2mm foam about half an inch for the body and a smaller diamond-shaped piece for the shrimp's back. Tie the diamond in first — the point makes it easier to bind down along the shank — and crank the bulk out of it.
Lay the longer foam strip in against the diamond, run it all the way back and crank that down too.
Tie the EP Tarantula Brush in right back at the foam, bring the thread about halfway up the shank and wrap the brush forward sparsely, turns just up against one another rather than overlapping. Capture the brush, take a couple of wraps and sweep the fibers back.
Part the brush along the top and fold the foam forward over it to make the buggy hard shell back. Hold it centred on top and take a couple of tightening wraps.
Bring the thread in front of the foam and repeat: a light wrap or two of the brush, then a foam segment, so you end up with two evenly spaced segments in front and the bigger one behind.
Take the last wraps of brush in behind the eye, pull everything back, trim the brush out, then take one loose wrap over the foam and snug it down. Fold everything back and whip finish just behind the eye.
Brush the rubber legs out with a dubbing brush, pull them straight down and trim them at an angle going back so they clear the hook point, and splay the eyes out.
