Ribbed Midge Black TB

Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/midge, 16-22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Thread body Black thread (as needed)
  • Wire rib Silver (or red) wire (fine, 1 length)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black tungsten bead on and seat it behind the eye; start black thread.
  2. Lay a thin, smooth thread body from the bead to above the barb.
  3. Tie in a strand of fine silver wire at the rear.
  4. Wrap thread forward to build a slim, glossy black body up to the bead.
  5. Rib forward with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of wire for segmentation, then helicopter to break it off.
  6. Build a small thread collar behind the bead, whip finish and add a dot of head cement or UV resin for shine.
