Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Ahrex PR378 GB Swimbait (weedless), 4/0
  • Thread White GSP 150 (waxed)

Materials

  • Bucktail (from base, air-filled) White bucktail (1 flattened clump)
  • Kanekalon / synthetic hair (tail) White/to match kanekalon synthetic hair (1 clump)
  • Flashabou White flashabou (small bunch)
  • Polar Flash Silver flashabou (~10 strands)
  • Bucktail / nayat (reverse bulkhead) With natural curl (several collars)
  • Stick-on eyes - (1 pair)
  • UV resin / liquid fusion Clear uv resin (-)

How to tie it

  1. Fix the GB Swimbait hook in the vise, wax GSP thread, and lay a base to the end of the shank; build a small bump at the rear and add glue.
  2. Tie in a clump of air-filled base bucktail on top, take a couple of loose wraps then push it flat on top with your thumb (keep it on top, not around) so it forms a flat buoyant wing that keeps the hook riding up; tie the butts down.
  3. Tie in a longer clump of tapered Kanekalon so about 60% lies over the top and 40% is split underneath, filling in the profile; spread it around and pull the belly fibres up to close the gap.
  4. Add white Flashabou over the top (70/30) and spread the shorter portion around, then add about ten strands of silver Polar Flash the same way for sparkle. Glue the tie-in.
  5. Start the reverse bulkhead: take a medium clump of curly, air-filled fur (about a pencil-third), remove the underfur, and tie it in reversed (tips pointing forward over the eye).
  6. Fold the fur back over itself and take wraps in front so it flares into a hollow collar; repeat with successive collars, packing each back, to build the bulky forward head.
  7. Sweep everything back, build a neat thread head, and whip finish.
  8. Glue on the stick-on eyes and coat the head with UV resin (or liquid fusion); cure.
