Hook 3X long barbless streamer hook, #6
Thread Red 140 denier
Materials
Lead-free wire n/a (About 10 wraps of 0.02, at the front of the shank)
Acrylic yarn White poly yarn (One full 3-strand length)
Tinsel Silver oval tinsel (One strand for the rib)
Arctic fox (wing fur) Dyed red arctic fox (Small tuft for the wing)
Black bear hair Black ostrich herl (Small tuft for the topping)
UV resin Clear uv resin (Large drop for the head)
How to tie it
Mount the 3X-long streamer hook and put about ten wraps of 0.02 lead-free wire on the front third of the shank; weighting the front rather than the rear keeps the body clean and gives the fly a darting action.
Start heavy red thread, build a dam behind the weight, take a few wraps over it and dam it at the front as well.
Tie in a strand of silver tinsel at the rear for the rib.
Tie in white acrylic yarn at the rear, full strength for a thick baitfish body (split it and use one or two strands if you want a slim one), and wrap it forward to the front of the weight. Tie off and trim.
Counter-wrap the silver tinsel forward in even turns so it cannot slip into the grooves of the yarn wraps, and tie it off at the front.
Take a small tuft of red-dyed arctic fox, lick your fingers to gather and thin it, and measure it a little longer than the bend of the hook. Cord the thread clockwise, set the wing on top with a pinch wrap and secure it without letting it spin around the shank.
Build a few thread wraps over the front of the fox butts to make a level platform so the topping will not be propped up.
Tie a slightly longer, unstacked tuft of black bear on top as the topping, again cording the thread and starting with a pinch wrap, then locking it in with several wraps. Trim the butts as short as possible.
Build a big streamer head, going right behind the eye and ramping back over the butts, then whip finish.
Put a large drop of UV resin on the head, spread it and spin the vise to smooth it, then cure it for ten or fifteen seconds.
