Redneck Prince-Beadhead

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph, standard or slightly curved, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Goose biot tail Brown goose biots (2 biots)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • Goose biot wings White goose biots (2 biots)
  • Hen hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather)
  • Hot-spot thread or tinsel Red tinsel (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Bead on and seated behind the eye. Start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Split-tail two brown goose biots at the bend, one hook-gap long.
  3. Twist 3-4 peacock herls into a rope with the thread and wrap a plump body to just behind the bead.
  4. Tie two white goose biots flat over the back as wings in a shallow V.
  5. Wind 2-3 turns of brown hen hackle behind the bead, sweep back and pin.
  6. Build a bright red thread (or red tinsel) collar between the hackle and the bead, the redneck hot spot, then whip finish and cement.
