Streamer · Redfish · Sea Trout · Snook · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater, 1-4
  • Thread Tan or Rust (to match body) 6/0 (140D)

Materials

  • Dumbbell or lead eyes Plain/painted (1 pair, sized to sink rate)
  • Craft fur wing Tan or Rust synthetic fiber (1 sparse clump)
  • Rabbit fur / zonker Tan or Rust rabbit fur zonker (small clump or short strip)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Rubber legs Tan/barred rubber legs (1-2 pairs)
  • Dubbing Tan or Rust dubbing (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lash the dumbbell eyes on top of the shank about one-third back from the eye, figure-8 and lock them so the fly rides hook-point up.
  2. At the bend tie in a sparse craft-fur wing one shank length long, topped with a few strands of pearl flash. The shrimp's swimming end.
  3. Add a short clump of rabbit fur or a stub of zonker for body bulk, then splay a pair of rubber legs to each side as legs and antennae.
  4. Dub a shaggy tan or rust body forward, working around and past the eyes; pick it out so it breathes.
  5. Wrap thread forward of the eyes, build a small head, whip finish and cement. Add a mono weedguard if fishing structure.
