  • Hook 2xl-3xl nymph, optional gold bead, 6-16
  • Thread Orange 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Red fox squirrel back guard hairs Rusty (tail)
  • Red fox squirrel belly dubbing Rusty tan (abdomen)
  • Oval tinsel Gold oval tinsel (rib)
  • Red fox squirrel back dubbing Darker/spiky (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Optionally slide a gold bead to the eye, then start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a small clump of red fox squirrel back guard hairs as a tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in gold oval tinsel, then dub a tapered abdomen of rusty squirrel-belly fur to the 60% mark.
  4. Rib the abdomen with 4-5 open turns of gold tinsel and tie off.
  5. Dub a fatter, spikier thorax of squirrel-back fur to just behind the eye, then pick out guard hairs on the sides as legs.
  6. Add a short orange thread collar as a hot spot, whip finish, and cement.
