Materials

  • Wings Wood duck flank (upright and divided)
  • Tail Medium blue dun hackle fibers (one shank length)
  • Body Stripped Rhode Island Red hackle quill (lacquered)
  • Hackle Medium blue dun hackle (3-4 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, start thread, and set wood duck wings upright and divided at 70%.
  2. Tie in a medium blue dun tail one shank length long.
  3. Tie in a stripped, lacquered quill from a Rhode Island Red rooster neck at the bend and wrap it forward for a reddish, distinctly segmented body. The Red Quill’s signature.
  4. Wind medium blue dun hackle 2 turns behind and 2 in front of the wings.
  5. Whip finish.
