Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1xl-2xl nymph, gold bead, 10-16
  • Thread Red 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1)
  • Goose biots Brown goose biots (2 (tail))
  • Holographic tinsel or dubbing Red ice dub (body)
  • Oval tinsel Gold oval tinsel (rib)
  • Hen hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather)
  • Goose biots White goose biots (2 (wing))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and start red thread behind it.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots as a split V-tail, each half a shank long.
  3. Tie in gold oval tinsel, then build a body of red holographic tinsel (or red dubbing) to the 70% mark.
  4. Rib with 4-5 open turns of gold tinsel and tie off.
  5. Take 2 turns of a brown hen hackle and sweep the fibers back as a beard.
  6. Set two white goose biots flat over the top as a V-wing, tips to mid-body, shiny side up.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
