Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig / nymph, slotted tungsten bead, 12-18
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (tail and abdomen)
  • Ultra wire Copper wire (rib)
  • Peacock herl or dubbing Natural / brown peacock herl or dubbing (thorax)
  • Red thread Red thread (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the barbless hook to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a few pheasant tail fibers as a tail, half a shank long, and a length of copper wire.
  3. Wrap the pheasant tail forward to the 65% mark for a slim abdomen and tie off.
  4. Counter-rib with 4-5 open turns of copper wire and helicopter off.
  5. Wrap or dub a peacock/brown thorax up to just behind the bead.
  6. Build a bright red thread collar between the thorax and the bead, the red 'neck' hot spot is the trigger. Then whip finish and cement.
