Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wet fly / down-eye, 12-16
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Glass seed beads Red, small (3-4 (body))
  • Dubbing Peacock or red-brown dubbing (thorax)
  • Hen hackle Brown or furnace hen hackle (1 feather)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Start red thread behind the eye and run it to the bend.
  2. Thread 3-4 small red glass beads onto the shank, slide them back to form a short translucent body, and lock them front and back with thread.
  3. Dub a thin peacock or red-brown thorax in front of the beads.
  4. Tie in a brown or furnace hen hackle by the tip, take 2 soft turns, and sweep the fibers back.
  5. Form a small head, whip finish, and add a thin UV coat over the glass beads.
