Red Light Jig

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph, slotted tungsten bead, 12-16
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Glass seed beads Red, small (4-6 (body))
  • Dubbing Red-brown or peacock dubbing (thorax)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook and start red thread behind it.
  2. Thread 4-6 tiny red glass beads onto the shank and slide them back against a thread dam at the bend. Strung red glass gives the translucent, glowing body the pattern is built around.
  3. Lock the string of beads in place with thread wraps front and back so they can't slide.
  4. Behind the tungsten bead, dub a short, buggy thorax of red-brown or peacock dubbing.
  5. Pick out a few dubbing fibers as suggestion of legs.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and run a thin bead of UV resin over the glass beads for durability, then cure.
