Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet fly, 8-14
• Thread Red 8/0

Materials

• Tail Red hackle fibers (small bunch)
• Rib Flat gold tinsel (fine)
• Body Red floss or wool (slim)
• Hackle Red-dyed hen hackle (1)
• Wing Red-dyed duck quill slips (1 pair)

How to tie it

1. Tie in the red tail at the bend, half a shank length.
2. Tie in the gold tinsel and wrap the red body forward to the 75% mark.
3. Rib with 4-5 evenly spaced turns of tinsel for flash and durability.
4. Wind 2-3 turns of red hen hackle and sweep the fibers back.
5. Mount matched red quill wings low over the body and whip finish a red head.
