Red Hot Worm

Nymph · Trout · Steelhead · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud or standard nymph, 8-14
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead (optional) Gold or red bead (1)
  • Ultra chenille (San Juan worm) Red chenille (1 length)

How to tie it

  1. Optionally slide a gold or red bead to the eye, then start thread mid-shank.
  2. Center a length of red Ultra chenille on the shank and bind it down at the midpoint, then again a few wraps forward, so equal tags hang off each end.
  3. Wrap thread over the shank between the tie-down points to build a thin red underbody.
  4. Whip finish at the center (or behind the bead) and add a drop of cement.
  5. Taper both chenille ends to points with a quick touch from a lighter, then trim each tag to about one shank long.
