  • Hook Wet fly / nymph, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Hen hackle fibers Brown / red-brown hen hackle fibers (tail and beard)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • Holographic tinsel Red holographic tinsel (rib)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of brown hen hackle fibers as a tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in red holographic tinsel, then 3-4 peacock herls, and wrap the herl forward to the 85% mark for a slim body.
  4. Rib forward with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of the red holo tinsel, the flash is the trigger, and tie off.
  5. Tie a sparse beard of brown hackle fibers underneath, reaching the hook point.
  6. Form a small neat head, whip finish, and cement.
