How to tie it
With the small red glass bead already seated on the size 18 hook, start the red thread behind the bead and run it back to the bend.
Pick three or four pheasant tail fibers with clean unbroken tips, align them, measure, and bind them in on top of the shank as the tail.
Bind in the 0.2mm red tying wire along the full length of the shank and run the thread back to the base of the tail; securing the wire the whole way keeps the transition smooth.
Build the abdomen from the red thread itself: smooth touching wraps forward, then walk back down once to leave a slim taper. Hang the thread at the front and half hitch it to keep it secured.
Counter-rib with five or six open turns of the red wire, carry it right up to the bead, capture it, and break the tag off.
Tie in a length of the wide pearlescent flat tinsel at the back of the thorax as the flash back.
Marry two strands of peacock herl, bind them in at the same point, and wrap about three turns forward for the thorax; lock everything down with thread before clipping the excess.
Tie one strand of red Krystal Flash on each side, fold it back and secure it as legs, then trim them to about halfway down the abdomen.
Fold the pearlescent tinsel forward over the thorax, lock it with thread wraps right behind the bead, trim the excess and whip finish.
