Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, 12-16
  • Thread Red/brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold tungsten bead (1)
  • Tail CDL (sparse)
  • Body Red Holo tinsel or thread, coated (smooth)
  • Collar Hare or squirrel dubbing (buggy)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold tungsten bead onto the jig hook and mount it. Start red/brown thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a few sparse Coq de Leon fibers at the bend for a tail about one shank long.
  3. Tie in red holographic tinsel (or build a red thread body) and wrap a smooth, slim body forward to the thorax.
  4. Coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure it for a hard, fast-sinking perdigon finish.
  5. Dub a short buggy collar of hare or squirrel behind the bead and pick it out.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
