Classic Recipe

• Hook wet fly / spider hook, down-eye, 14
• Thread yellow 8/0

Materials

• Silk body Yellow silk (full length of shank)
• Body twist / head Peacock herl (1 strand)
• Hackle Golden-brown feather from a cock pheasant neck (1 feather)

How to tie it

1. Run the yellow silk from behind the eye to above the barb, then forward two-thirds.
2. Tie in a strand of peacock herl and twist it loosely with the yellow silk, then wind the twisted rope forward to build a slim body with peacock ribbing showing over yellow.
3. Continue the herl to make two turns at the head for a small dark head, then tie off.
4. Tie in the golden cock pheasant neck feather by its tip behind the eye.
5. Take 1.5 to 2 sparse turns of hackle, secure, clip the stem, stroke fibres back, whip finish and varnish.
