How to tie it
Mount the 3X-long streamer hook and start red thread. Wrap about a quarter of the way down the bend and back, whip finish the red thread and cut it off.
Start black thread and wrap down over the red just to the point where the barb would be, so a short band of red shows at the rear as the hot butt.
Coat the red butt with a little thin UV resin or superglue and cure it, then bring the black thread forward.
Pull eight to ten guinea fibers straight out from the stem, strip them off together and tie them in at the rear as a tail about half a shank length long, meant to suggest a trailing shuck. Bind the butts forward with even wraps, leaving an eye length and a half or two behind the eye for the head.
Tie in the 0.4 mm flat silver tinsel at the rear.
Double a long piece of black Dirty Bug Yarn around the bobbin, measure it against the shank, then bind it down all the way back to the tail and bring the thread forward.
Wrap the yarn forward, doubling back over itself as needed to shape a body slightly fatter at the front than the rear, and tie it off with good locking wraps, building a smooth base for the hackle.
Rib forward with four or five wide, even turns of the flat tinsel and tie off. A drop of superglue on the inside of the tinsel before wrapping helps it hold.
Turn the fly over and tie in a matching bunch of guinea fibers as a throat, reaching back to about the hook point, keeping them straight beneath the shank.
Tie in a slip of natural pheasant tail fibers on top as the wing, extending to about the end of the tail, and trim the butts.
Tie in two or three peacock herls and wrap a full herl head in front of the wing, tie off, whip finish and secure with a drop of superglue.
