Golden pheasant tippets Orange barred with black (8-10 fibers for the tail)
Oval tinsel Silver oval tinsel (One strand (wire also works))
Seal's fur or substitute (Seal-X, angora goat) Red ice dub (Enough for the rear half of the body)
Seal's fur or substitute Black dubbing (Enough for the front half of the body)
Hen hackle Black hen hackle (One small feather)
How to tie it
Mount the 1X-long wet fly hook and lay a black thread base back to the bend.
Hold eight or ten golden pheasant tippet fibers by the tips and snip them from the stem so the tips stay aligned, then tie them in at the bend for a tail about one hook gap long with both black bars showing.
Run the thread almost to the front and tie in the silver oval tinsel for the rib, binding it back toward the tail.
Wax the thread well and dub a shaggy noodle of red seal's fur or substitute. Dub the rear half of the body.
Dub the front half with black seal's fur, keeping it just as fuzzy, and stop a couple of eye lengths short of the eye.
Rib forward with evenly spaced turns of oval tinsel; keep the turns close together to tame a fuzzy body or wider apart to leave it shaggy. Tie off and trim.
Tie in a small black hen hackle by the stem, use hackle pliers, and take three or four turns for a soft collar. Tie off and trim.
Lick your fingers, stroke the collar back and build a neat wet fly head, burying any stray fibers.
Whip finish, then tidy stray fur ends with a thread burner or scissors and add head cement.
