Tyer Recipe

  • Hook down-eye wet fly / salmon hook, 4-8
  • Thread black 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Red hackle fibers (small bunch)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel (shank length)
  • Rib Fine silver wire (1 strand)
  • Throat hackle Black hen (1 collar/beard)
  • Wing Red and blue (dyed goose/mallard sections) (matched slips)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base to the bend above the barb.
  2. Tie in a short bunch of red hackle fibers for the tail.
  3. Wrap flat silver tinsel forward to form the body and rib it with fine silver wire in even open turns.
  4. Tie in a black hen throat/beard hackle below the shank.
  5. Set matched red-and-blue wing slips low over the body, form a neat head, and whip finish.
