Start the thread behind the eye and lay a base back to the bend.
Cut a razor-trimmed strip of 1/8 in camel Evazote foam, tie it in at the bend, and bind it forward along the shank to form a low foam body, stopping about one-quarter shank-length behind the eye.
Tie in a brown saddle hackle by the butt at the front of the foam body.
Stack a small clump of cow elk hair and tie it in as a downwing over the body, tips reaching just past the bend; trim and secure the butts.
Palmer the brown hackle forward through the wing tie-in area in two or three open turns, tie it off, and trim.
Build a small thread head, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
Trim the hackle flat underneath if you want the fly to sit lower in the film.
