Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Mustad S74SNP, 2
  • Thread Danville's Monofilament Fine

Materials

  • Rattle (4mm glass rattle)
  • Body/Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (EX Body Tubing, medium)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Flashabou)
  • Under wing White uni stretch (Bucktail)
  • Over wing Chartreuse arctic fox (Bucktail)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and lay a base along the shank.
  2. Lash the rattle on top of the hook shank with firm crisscross wraps, then coat the wraps with glue so it cannot roll.
  3. Tie in a tail of marabou about one shank-length long with several strands of Krystal Flash over the top.
  4. Cut a length of braided Mylar tubing, remove the core, and slide it over the rattle and shank.
  5. Bind the tubing down at the rear just ahead of the tail, then at the front behind the eye, forming a smooth rattle-filled body.
  6. Pick out or trim the frayed tubing ends at the rear to blend into the tail.
  7. Optionally add a hackle collar at the head for extra movement.
  8. Stick eyes on each side of the head area and coat the head and eyes with epoxy or head cement.
