Reference Recipe
- Hook Saltwater (e.g. TMC 811S), 2-6
- Thread Fire orange or red 140 denier
Materials
- Bead-chain or lead eyes Silver or painted dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
- Calf tail or craft fur (wing) Tan or red calf tail craft fur (sparse clump)
- Flash Gold flashabou (few strands)
- Grizzly hackle tips (overwing) Natural hackle (2)
- Rubber legs (barred) Barred rubber legs (1-2 pairs)
- Chenille (puff head) Red, gold, and green chenille (1 length each)
How to tie it
- Start thread behind the eye and lash bead-chain or small lead eyes on top at the 25% mark with figure-8s and glue. They flip it to ride hook-up.
- At the bend, tie in a sparse wing of tan or red calf tail reaching about 1.5 shank lengths, plus a few strands of gold flash.
- Add two splayed grizzly hackle tips over the wing and a pair of barred rubber legs each side for movement.
- Behind the eyes, tie in lengths of red, gold, and green chenille.
- Wind the chenille forward around and through the eyes, alternating colors, to build the puffed rasta head; tie off in front of the eyes.
- Whip finish behind the eye, snip, and cement; pick the chenille head out round and even the legs.
