Rainbow Warrior X-heavy

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig (e.g. Hanak 400BL), 10-14
  • Thread Red 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Silver (large) (1)
  • Lead wire Natural lead wire (10-12 turns)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (tail) Natural pheasant tail fibers (several)
  • Mylar tinsel (body) Pearl mylar tinsel (1 strand)
  • Ice dub (thorax) Rainbow (pinch)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slot a large tungsten bead onto a jig hook, seat it behind the eye, then wrap 10-12 turns of lead wire and jam them into the bead for maximum weight.
  2. Start red thread, lock the lead, and run to the bend; tie in a pheasant tail tail one hook-gap long.
  3. Wrap a pearl tinsel body over the lead to the 70% mark and tie off.
  4. Leave a red hot band, then dub a short rainbow ice-dub thorax behind the bead and pick it out.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead and snip.
  6. Coat the tinsel body in thin UV resin and cure for a slick, indestructible finish that also sheds water to sink faster.
