How to tie it
Remove the backing from the Hairline Metallic Tape and fold it over the hook from the return eye back to even with the point; secure it, then trim it belly-shaped with straight and curved scissors.
Remove the insert from a section of small Pearl Mylar Tubing and slide it over the hook and tape so the ends sit slightly past the bend. Secure the rear behind the tape with a dozen wraps of 18/0, trim and whip finish; secure the front in front of the tape with the 24/0 white, trim, build the thread up and whip finish.
Set the 3mm silver 3-D eyes underneath the hook, between the hook eye and the Mylar body, and add head cement.
Build the sub-wing behind the eyes in four layers: White Polar Fiber underneath, even with the hook point; White Polar Fiber on top, slightly longer than the tail; a small amount of chartreuse Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe over that; light pink Polar Fiber over the fringe. Trim the excess behind the eyes and cement.
Secure a thin section of red Polar Fiber on each side, left and right, in the middle of the body behind the eyes, and trim.
Split the thread, wax it, load pearlescent Ice Dub loosely, double the thread over with a dubbing twister and spin; brush the rope out, wrap it behind and between the eyes while pulling the fibres back with your fingers, tie off in front of the eyes, build the thread, whip finish and brush out.
In front of the eyes, secure olive Polar Fiber on top slightly longer than the previous wing, and White Polar Fiber underneath slightly shorter; whip finish and trim.
Pull all the wing fibres, top and bottom, back tight and wrap a collar behind the eyes. Fold two strands of Olive and pearl Crystal Flash over the thread and secure one down each side as the lateral line, trimmed slightly shorter than the longest part of the wing; whip finish, then wrap the red thread over the white collar and whip finish.
Trim the butts in front of the eyes on a taper, start the 24/0 thread, build it up and cement the collar. Spin chartreuse Ice Dub in a split thread, switch to hackle pliers and wrap it edge to edge in front of the eyes; tie off and brush it out.
Secure grey Polar Fiber on top slightly longer than the longest part of the wing, White Polar Fiber underneath slightly shorter, and peacock herl tips over the top slightly longer than the wing as a topping.
Measure two dyed grey grizzly hackle tips at about three quarters the length of the main wing, strip the fibres at that point and secure them by the stems on each side, left and right. Trim the butts on a taper, build the thread, whip finish and trim.
Switch to the black thread and cover the white head; whip finish and trim. Take the fly off the vise, add the parr markings in black and red permanent marker on each side of the wing, and add head cement.
