Raghead Crab

Crab · Permit · Redfish · Bonefish · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater hook, 2-6
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Body Rug yarn or heavy dubbing (flat disc)
  • Legs Rubber legs (knotted)
  • Eyes Mono eyes (burned) (1 pair)
  • Weight Lead underneath (to ride hook-up)
  • Claws Rug yarn clumps (2 small)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, tie in lead weight or dumbbell eyes underneath the shank.
  2. Cut short lengths of rug yarn and tie them in crosswise along the shank with figure-8 wraps, like laying rungs on a ladder. 5-6 pieces builds the disc.
  3. Add knotted rubber legs between the yarn segments. The knots read as leg joints.
  4. Tie in burned mono eyes at the rear.
  5. Shape two small yarn clumps as claws.
  6. Trim the whole yarn mass into a flat, rounded disc. A poker chip. Comb it out, trim again. The flatter and rounder, the better.
  7. Whip finish.
