Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Polypropylene yarn Light brown/tan polypropylene yarn (one length for body and wing)
  • Polypropylene yarn Dark brown polypropylene yarn (a few fibers for the head (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the eye and lay a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a length of light brown poly yarn at the bend, leaving the long end trailing to the rear.
  3. Wind the thread forward to just behind the eye.
  4. Wrap the poly yarn forward in touching turns to build a slim segmented body up to the thread and tie off, leaving the tag long.
  5. Fold the remaining yarn back over the top of the body as a low tent-style wing reaching to the bend, and lock it down behind the eye.
  6. Trim the wing butt and, if desired, add a few dark poly fibers as a small head, then whip finish.
