Thread Olive, white, or black to match 6/0 (140 denier)
Materials
Dumbbell eyes Lead or painted (1 pair)
Rabbit zonker strip (tail) Olive, black, or white rabbit zonker strip (1)
Flash Pearl or gold mylar tinsel flashabou (few strands)
Cross-cut rabbit strip (body) To match tail (1)
How to tie it
Start thread behind the eye and lash a pair of dumbbell eyes on top at the 20% mark with figure-8s and a drop of glue.
At the bend, bind a rabbit zonker strip by its hide as a tail reaching about 1.5 shank lengths past the bend, fur flowing back.
Tie in a few strands of flash along each side, about half the tail length.
Bind a cross-cut rabbit strip at the bend, hide facing out, and wrap it forward in touching turns like chenille to just behind the eyes, stroking the fur back each wrap so it doesn't bind under the thread.
Figure-8 around the dumbbell, tie off, sweep the fur back and whip finish at the eye.
Snip and cement the head; a wet finger sweeps the fur into a baitfish taper.
