Quilldigon

Nymph · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, 14-18
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten (1)
  • Tail CDL (sparse)
  • Body Stripped peacock quill (wrapped)
  • Thorax Ice Dub (small)
  • Coat UV resin over quill (thin)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and mount it. Start brown thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a few sparse Coq de Leon fibers at the bend for a tail about one shank long.
  3. Tie in a stripped peacock quill and wrap it forward in touching, edge-to-edge turns so the natural stripe shows as clean segmentation, then tie off behind the bead.
  4. Coat the quill body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure it, this armors the fragile quill and gives the glassy perdigon finish.
  5. Dub a small flashy Ice Dub thorax behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
