Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig (e.g. MFC 7220), 14-18
  • Thread Tan 10/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold (oversized) (1)
  • Coq de leon (tail) Dark pardo (6-8 fibers)
  • Micro flashabou (butt) Pearl flashabou (2 strands)
  • Stripped peacock quill (body) Natural peacock herl (1)
  • Hot-spot thread collar Fluorescent orange thread (few turns)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slot an oversized gold tungsten bead onto a jig hook, seat it behind the eye, and start thread.
  2. Tie in a few dark pardo coq de leon fibers at the 60% mark, wrap to the bend, and leave a tail one hook-gap long.
  3. Bind two strands of pearl micro-flashabou and wind a short bright butt at the bend, then tie off. The flash tag is the Quilldigon's signature trigger.
  4. Tie in a stripped, soaked peacock quill and wrap touching turns forward to just behind the bead for the segmented body.
  5. Wind two turns of orange thread behind the bead for a hot collar and whip finish.
  6. Cover the body, butt, and collar in a thin layer of UV resin and cure hard. The resin shell and heavy bead make it a fast-sinking bomb.
