How to tie it
Slide a 3/32 copper bead onto a size 14 Daiichi 1760 and start tan UTC thread. Tie three strands of copper black grizzly Flashabou in for the tail, taking one wrap underneath to prop them up and splay them, then trim to about a shank length.
Trim the very tip of the cinnamon tapered quill to a point without shaving any material away, since this is a small hook and you need every bit of the fine end. Tie it in at the very back and build a light thread underbody taper.
Wrap the quill forward with the darker side facing back in close touching turns. The tan thread showing through the translucent quill is what makes this cinnamon colour work; the thread underneath is as much a material as the quill.
Tie the body off and coat it with thin UV resin before you go any further. The quill is durable on its own, but resin makes it bulletproof and makes the segmentation pop.
Tie in copper brown Flashabou for the wing case, then 5mm tan UV Straggle, and take two or three wraps of Straggle up to the bead. Sweep everything back with a couple of locking wraps and trim.
Give the Straggle a haircut on top to create a landing pad for the wing case, then pull the Flashabou straight over, take a couple of wraps on top and underneath and trim.
Darken the thread with a brown marker before the last few wraps so the collar finishes dark rather than tan, whip finish, sweep the Straggle down, then put a dollop of thicker UV resin over the wing case and cure it.
