Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless jig (e.g. Hanak 400BL), 12-16
  • Thread Tan or olive 10/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold or silver slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Coq de leon (tail) Pardo (6-8 fibers)
  • Stripped peacock quill (body) Natural peacock herl (1)
  • Hot-spot thread collar Fluorescent orange thread (few turns)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slot a tungsten bead onto a jig hook and seat it behind the eye, then start thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a small clump of coq de leon fibers at the 60% mark and wrap back to the bend, leaving a tail one hook-gap long.
  3. Bind a stripped, soaked quill at the bend and wind touching turns forward to just behind the bead for a slim segmented body; tie off and snip.
  4. Build a two-turn hot-spot collar of orange thread against the bead and whip finish.
  5. Coat the whole body and collar in a thin layer of UV resin and cure, the resin armor and the tungsten are what make it a bomb that plummets.
