How to tie it
Start fluorescent chartreuse 70 denier thread on a size 14 curved nymph hook and tie a trimmed point of light olive Scud Back in as close to the eye as you can, then flip it forward and take a couple more wraps. That material comes back over the head at the very end, so it has to be anchored right at the front.
Make your own mono eyes by holding a chunk of monofilament in hackle pliers and barely touching a flame to each end so it balls up, then figure-eight them in tight to the eye and gather the wraps. A drop of superglue here makes them permanent.
Pull a small pinch of the long fluffy fibres off a chartreuse marabou feather, stroke them together and snip halfway down before tying in, which keeps the bulk off the body. Bind it back in touching turns to the bend, take one wrap underneath to prop the tail up and trim it short.
Tie the insect green tapered synthetic quill in at the very back, spin the bobbin flat and run the thread up and back once to cover everything and start a light taper, then wrap the quill forward to segment the body and tie it off. Change the thread underneath and the same quill takes on a completely different colour.
Tie chartreuse UV Straggle in behind the eyes, then wrap it two turns behind the eyes, underneath and over the top on each side, finishing with a cross wrap straight over and pulling everything forward so you trap as few fibres as possible. That single material does both thorax and legs.
Give the Straggle a haircut on top only, leaving the fibres along the sides, then pull the Scud Back straight over to form the head and whip finish right there.
Trim the shell back about halfway down the body, cut a small V notch in the tag, and colour the mono eyes with a black marker so they stand out. UV resin over the quill body before the head goes on is optional.
