Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, #14-18
  • Thread Olive or tan 8/0

Materials

  • Marabou Amber/olive marabou (short trailing shuck)
  • Dubbing Olive/PMD (abdomen and thorax)
  • Deer hair Natural deer hair (small clump for wing)
  • Hackle Grizzly or dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at mid-shank and run a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short marabou tuft at the bend as the trailing shuck, about half a hook length long.
  3. Dub a slim tapered abdomen forward over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  4. Tie in a small clump of deer hair pointing forward over the eye as the wing, butts trimmed to form the thorax base.
  5. Wrap a few turns of hackle through the thorax behind the wing.
  6. Dub the thorax to the eye, sweep the wing back and lock it into a low profile.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
