Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard saltwater hook, 1-4
  • Thread White or clear flat waxed / mono

Materials

  • Flat braid or mylar (body) Pearl mylar tinsel (as needed)
  • Bucktail or SF Blend fiber (wing) White bucktail (sparse bunch)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (a few strands)
  • Topping (SF Blend or bucktail) Gray or olive bucktail (sparse)
  • Stick-on eyes (optional) Silver d eyes mm (2)
  • UV resin / head cement Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the saltwater hook and lay a smooth thread base.
  2. Tie in pearl flat braid and wrap a thin body forward to the eye and back; keep it sparse so it stays translucent.
  3. Tie in a sparse white bucktail (or SF Blend) wing on top, about 1.5 shank lengths long.
  4. Add a few strands of pearl flash, then a sparse gray/olive topping over the wing.
  5. Optional: set small stick-on eyes at the head.
  6. Whip finish, then coat the head (and lightly the body) with UV resin or head cement for a glassy, translucent baitfish finish.
