Pyramid Beach Leech

Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig hook (balanced-leech style), 10-12
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Straight pin / balance pin n/a (1)
  • Marabou (tail) Black or olive marabou (1 clump)
  • Flashabou Pearl / Purple flashabou (2 strands per side)
  • Simi Seal / dubbing (body) Black or olive chenille ice dub (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the jig hook and lay a thread base along the shank.
  2. Bind a straight pin (with the bead pushed onto its point) along the top of the shank so the bead sits just ahead of the eye; this balances the fly to hang horizontally. Trim excess pin and lock it down.
  3. Wrap the thread back to the bend.
  4. Tie in a black marabou tail one shank length long, and flank it with two strands of flashabou down each side.
  5. Dub a shaggy Simi Seal body from the bend forward to the bead.
  6. Pick out the dubbing for a buggy leech profile, whip finish behind the bead, and cement.
