- Hook standard dry fly hook, 14-18
- Thread black 8/0
Materials
- Closed-cell foam strip Black craft foam mm (body)
- Elk hair Natural deer hair (downwing)
- Hackle Brown hackle (1 for collar)
How to tie it
- Start thread and tie in a thin strip of black foam at the bend, leaving the tag pointing rearward.
- Wrap the thread forward to the 70% point building a thin underbody.
- Pull the foam forward over the shank and tie it down at the 70% point to form the body, letting a short tag extend past the bend.
- Tie in a clump of elk hair as a downwing extending to the rear of the body.
- Wrap a brown hackle collar in front of the wing, tie off, whip finish, and cement.
