How to tie it
Seat the 3.2mm black slotted bead against the jig eye and start the black 70D behind it, running a thin base back to the bend.
Tie in a small bunch of black coq de leon at the bend for the tail, about half a shank long, then bind the butts forward so the underbody is tapered.
Tie in the black brassie wire at the bend, then blend the purple UV and black microflash dubbing together in your fingers before dubbing a slim abdomen forward to the 65% mark. Mixing the two by hand gives a mottled dark body that flashes purple as it turns, rather than a flat purple fly.
Rib the black wire forward in five or six evenly spaced turns and tie off, which segments the body and armours the soft dubbing against teeth.
Tie in a black CDC feather by the tip at the 65% mark and take two turns as a collar, then sweep the fibers back and lock them with a couple of wraps.
Dub a short thorax of the same purple and black blend over the CDC butts up to the bead, whip finish, and coat only the ribbed abdomen with Bone Dry so the collar stays soft.
