Reference Recipe

  • Hook streamer / steelhead hook, 4-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Oval tinsel (rib) Silver oval tinsel (1 strand)
  • Ice dub or braid (body) Purple ice dub (pinch)
  • Flash (underwing) Purple / pearl flash (a few strands)
  • Bucktail or marabou (wing) Purple marabou (sparse bunch)
  • Deer hair (collar & head) Natural/dyed deer hair (1-2 stacks)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start the thread, and wrap to the bend.
  2. Tie in silver tinsel, then dub a purple ice-dub body forward to the 70% mark and rib the tinsel forward in 5 turns.
  3. Tie in an underwing of purple flash, then a wing of purple bucktail (or marabou) over the body, reaching to the bend.
  4. At the 80% mark, stack and spin a bunch of deer hair to form a flared collar and the base of the head.
  5. Whip finish tight against the eye, then trim the spun deer hair into a rounded muddler head, flat on the underside.
  6. Add a drop of cement to the whip finish.
