Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Silver or gold slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Coq de Leon (tail) Natural coq de leon fibers (a few fibers)
  • Pheasant tail or quill (body) Purple-dyed pheasant tippet (small bunch)
  • Ultra wire (rib) Copper wire (fine)
  • Ice dub / peacock (thorax) Purple or Peacock ice dub (pinch)
  • Thread (hot-spot collar) Fluorescent pink utc thread (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook, mount it, and start the thread.
  2. Tie in a few coq de leon fibers as a short tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in fine copper wire, then wrap a slim purple pheasant-tail (or quill) body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib the wire forward in 5 open turns and tie off.
  5. Dub a small peacock/purple thorax.
  6. Build a fluorescent-pink hot-spot collar of thread right behind the bead, the trigger point.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement (or coat the collar with UV resin).
