Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry / emerger hook, 12-18
  • Thread Purple or Black 8/0

Materials

  • Z-lon / Antron (trailing shuck) Amber/brown antron or z lon (sparse)
  • Dry-fly dubbing (body) Purple ice dub (pinch)
  • Para-post wing White uni stretch (1 clump)
  • Dry hackle (parachute) Grizzly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread at the 70% mark.
  2. Tie in a sparse amber Z-lon trailing shuck at the bend, stubby (about half a hook gap).
  3. Dub a slim purple abdomen from the bend forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Tie in a white para-post upright and build a thread base around it to stand it up.
  5. Tie in a grizzly hackle at the base of the post.
  6. Dub a purple thorax around the base of the post.
  7. Wrap the hackle parachute-style in 4-5 turns down the post and tie it off under the post.
  8. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
