- Hook steelhead/salmon wet-fly hook, 4-8
- Thread Black 6/0
Materials
- Floss or ice dub (butt) Fluorescent Green floss or ice dub (small)
- Hackle fibers (tail) Red hackle fibers (small bunch)
- Oval tinsel (rib) Silver oval tinsel (1 strand)
- Dubbing or floss (body) Purple ice dub (pinch)
- Hackle (collar) Purple or Black hackle (1 feather)
- Calf tail or bucktail (wing) White bucktail (sparse bunch)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook, start black thread, and wrap to the bend.
- Wrap a short fluorescent-green butt at the bend, the signature green tag.
- Tie in a small red hackle-fiber tail, about one gap long.
- Tie in silver oval tinsel, then dub or wrap a purple body forward to the 80% mark.
- Rib the tinsel forward in 5 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
- Wrap a purple (or black) hackle collar in 2-3 turns and sweep the fibers down and back.
- Tie a sparse white calf-tail wing over the top reaching to the tail; build a head, whip finish, and cement.
