Peacock herl Dyed purple (natural also works) (Three strands)
Wire Silver wire (One strand for the rib)
CDC feather Natural dun cdc feather (One feather)
Ice Dub Purple UV ice dub (Small pinch for the thorax)
How to tie it
Slide a 3 mm silver slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and start purple thread behind it, running a base back to the bend.
Tie in a length of silver wire on the near side of the shank, keeping it parallel to the shank so it does not roll, and bind it back to the bend.
Tie in three strands of purple dyed peacock herl at the bend.
Wrap the herl forward to just behind the bead, overlapping the wraps slightly as you go to build a subtle taper from back to front. Tie off with a couple of wraps and trim the excess.
Rib forward with evenly spaced turns of the silver wire, tie off behind the bead and clip the excess.
Pull the barbs of a single CDC feather back from the tip, tie the tip in right behind the bead, grip it with hackle pliers and take no more than a wrap and a half for the collar. Secure and clip the stem out.
Dub a tight, thin noodle of purple UV Ice Dub onto the thread, taking only a little at a time since the fiber is coarse.
Stroke the CDC back and build the thorax/collar right behind the bead with the Ice Dub, then whip finish and clip the thread.
Trim the CDC barbs back so they end at about the rear of the hook, cutting at random lengths around the fly rather than all at once so the collar does not look blunt.
