Reference Recipe

  • Hook salmon/steelhead or shank, 1.5-4 (or on a shank with trailing hook)
  • Thread Purple 6/0

Materials

  • Flat tinsel (rib) Silver oval tinsel (1 strand)
  • Ice dub (body) Purple ice dub (pinch)
  • Marabou or schlappen (rear hackle) Purple marabou (1 plume)
  • Flash Silver / Purple flash (a few strands)
  • Schlappen and guinea (front collar) Purple saddle hackle (1 each)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook (or shank), start purple thread, and wrap to the bend.
  2. Tie in flat silver tinsel and dub a purple ice-dub rear body to the 50% mark.
  3. Rib the tinsel forward in 4-5 turns and tie off.
  4. Tie in a purple marabou (or schlappen) plume by the tip and palmer 3-4 turns for a flowing rear hackle.
  5. Dub a purple front body forward to the 85% mark.
  6. Add a few strands of silver/purple flash down each side.
  7. Wrap a purple schlappen collar (2 turns), then a purple guinea collar (2 turns), sweeping the fibers back.
  8. Build a head, whip finish, and cement.
