Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Coq de Leon / hackle fibers (tail) Brown hackle fibers (a few)
  • Ultra wire (rib) Copper wire (fine)
  • Ice dub (body) Purple ice dub (pinch)
  • Ice dub (collar) Purple ice dub (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook, mount it, and start the thread.
  2. Tie in a few coq de leon fibers as a tail, half a shank length long.
  3. Tie in fine copper wire at the bend for the rib.
  4. Dub a slim, tapered purple ice-dub body forward to the 70% mark.
  5. Counter-rib the wire forward in 5 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
  6. Dub a fuller, buggy purple collar behind the bead and pick it out to suggest legs.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
