Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard or curved midge hook, 18-22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tying thread (body) Black thread (as needed)
  • Ultra wire (rib) Silver wire (extra-fine)
  • UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small hook and start the black thread behind the eye.
  2. Lay a smooth, even thread underbody down to the bend and back to the 80% mark; the whole body is just thread, so keep it flawless.
  3. Tie in the fine silver wire at the 80% mark and bind it down to the bend.
  4. Wrap the thread forward to build a slim, slightly tapered body.
  5. Rib the wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced open turns for segmentation, tie off, and helicopter to break it.
  6. Build a tiny thread thorax/head, whip finish, and coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin for a wet, glassy look.
