Reference Recipe

  • Hook barbless jig hook, 12-16
  • Thread Olive or Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Mottled slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Ultra wire (rib) Copper or gold fine wire (fine)
  • Sparkle dubbing (abdomen) Blue/Green (green rock worm) (pinch)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (legs/antennae) Dark natural pheasant tail fibers (a few)
  • Ice dub (thorax/wing pads) Dark brown dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the mottled tungsten bead to the eye of a barbless jig hook, mount it, and start the thread.
  2. Tie in fine wire at the bend for the rib.
  3. Dub a bright blue/green abdomen forward to the 65% mark, keeping it slim and translucent.
  4. Rib the wire forward in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns and tie it off.
  5. Tie in a few dark pheasant-tail fibers sweeping past the bend and along the sides as undulating legs and antennae.
  6. Dub a dark thorax behind the bead to form the pronounced wing pads.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
