Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved caddis/scud hook, 12-16
  • Thread Dark brown 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black or gold bead (1)
  • Sparkle/Antron dubbing (abdomen) Bright green or Olive sparkle antron dubbing (pinch)
  • Ultra wire (rib) Copper wire (fine)
  • Ice dub (thorax/wing pads) Dark brown / peacock ice dub (pinch)
  • Pheasant tail fibers (legs/antennae) Natural dark pheasant tail fibers (a few)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye, mount the curved hook, and start the thread.
  2. Tie in fine copper wire at the bend for the rib.
  3. Dub a slim, translucent bright-green abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib the wire forward in 5-6 open turns, tie off, and break the tag.
  5. Sweep a few dark pheasant-tail fibers back along the sides as trailing legs/antennae.
  6. Dub a fuller dark thorax behind the bead to suggest the dark wing pads.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
